This cap dates to the 1930s, 40s or 50s and has been personalized to the Drifters club. It features a sterling silver Native pin (as found).
The club cap could have been a special order back in the day directly from Harley Davidson. Light in weight and comfortable to wear, it was made expressly for motorcycle riders. Made of a heavy grade of sanforized and mercerized cloth, it's finely finished with a strong and well-fitting fibre frame that keeps the cap in shape--wet or dry.
The riser holds the front up in a snappy military style. Air vent holes, a silk cord and a padded sweatband are added features--along with the white visor, which was an added charge (+$0.30). The visor is made from a hard-wearing composition that was made to not discolor over time (look at how clean the visor is after either 70, 80 or 90 years!).
In amazing condition - especially in light of its age - this cap is sure to be a delight in the collection.
NOTE: This cap sold for $2.25 when new (that's including the $0.30 upcharge for the white visor).
